Cone’s exhibition ‘Der Mönch und das Schlitzohr’ refers to a dialectical level. He devotes a part of his work to himself. This takes the form of serial self-portraits. These images must be used for intellectual games and visual experiments. He found the conceptual origin in his creative roots, which lie in graffiti. The principle of a pseudonym – to conceal one’s own identity – in order to multiply, diffuse and experiment with it, depicts the core of this work. Instead of a tag or classic style, the portrait is chosen as a place marker of identity and varied in a multifaceted way. Cone understands this as an open experiment in the confusion between autobiographical sub-realities and pure fiction, always in search of an own visual language. The type of pen-and-ink drawings which have become a trademark for Cone The Weird in the last few years are mainly shown.

‘Der Mönch und das Schlitzohr’ contains a selection of the
kind of ink drawings Cone is well known for. Selfies, tributes
and ridiculous confessions are their subjects.
The self portraits are a serial work with its conceptual roots in
his graffiti background. Instead of styles he spreads his varieties
of the bearded man with glasses and experiments with it, formally
and thematically. Using his character allows him to make
these works a bit more personal while exploring the depths of
his consciousness and phantasies.
