The exhibition „Shape Shift“ marks the first solo show in Germany of the artist duo SOBEKCIS. For this display the twins have focused on abstract paintings and purely concentrated on the artistic mediums of form, color and contrast. During the last years they detached their works from figurative subjects to abstract forms, as their main idea is to open a whole new chapter in their career. In contrast to the earlier storytelling with figurative elements, the artists now want to address their audience in a new way. Creating a stronger bond to their graffiti background by showing their way of working outside to the observer inside the gallery, forms the basis of their current functioning.
“Shape Shift” stands for this particular transition, but also for change, progression, evolution and new experiences in general. For the artists the only constant in the world is change. Searching for the next step, the next challenge, the next shift in their work, constantly searching further – that is their primary target as an artist-being.
